How much are you worth? You wouldn’t happen to fall under the “clunker” bracket, would you? As I type (TYPOED A FEW WEEKS AGO) the Senate is expected to support what the House has already agreed to: 2 billion more for the popular “cash for clunkers” program. The idea is that you can take your jalopy and turn it in for $3,500-$4,500 towards a new car. And if all you have is a bucket of bolts that’s worth $250 (with the new seat covers), it would be a good plan to take the government up on this.
How about you? Are you a clunker? The right answer is “yes.” Did you know that God has an exchange program. You bring your own rustbucket of a life, and he’ll give exchange it for something that has much more value.
Here are a few rules from the “cash for clunkers” program that illustrate either by similarity or dissimilarity the celestial program for your life:
1. The exchange has to be toward a new car.
That’s right… God goal for us is all new.
2. Program is only as long as money last or until November 1, 2009.
Nope…God is willing to do the exchange until the end.
3. There are no income limits to participate.
That’s right… even if you are rich, God will work with you.
4. You can’t trade two clunkers in for a new car.
Very true…the deal with God is one for one… can’t be part of someone else’s salvation.
5. The clunker you bring in, is not saved for someone else, it’s scraped.
Right…God doesn’t keep the old you…he forgives and then forgets.
6. You have to be able to drive your clunker to the dealership.
Nope…you can call out to God for that new gift anywhere, you don’t have to make it to church to have your cry to God heard.
7. Your clunker cannot be more than 25 years old.
Nope… God will work with you old folks too.
Praise God… He will take our “clunker,” and exchange give us what we can never pay for…eternal life.
HANGING OUT OVER THE WATER
I am thankful for a very good summer. A Sabbath afternoon, during a camping trip few weeks ago, I wondered off with a few others down a remote trail... where in the middle of nowhere we discovered a hammock stretched out over a creek...It really could get no better.
More hanging out over the water... in British Columbia last week.
