A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A PASTOR
Since many of you are unsure of what we do... here you are.  A journal of my day:
I arrive at the office midmorning and while waiting for members to call and compliment me on last week's sermon, I practice my golf swing.  Tiring of that I decide that member visitation is important... so...
...off I go.  Except with gas prices I am forced to ride my motorcycle on this sunny afternoon.
Once I get there I am seated on a comfortable chair asking them about life and family.

The visit took extra time and more work because I had to get to know the family dog.
Later that evening I decide it would be good to be involved in the community, so... I connect with  the church softball team.
(we won... and the ball on the cone is staged)
Now I am home... I am tired after a busy day.  I think I need a vacation.
And right on time - I am headed for Europe next week... I will be preaching.
In other news: Last week was VBS - my office assistant turned two of my socks into puppets.
So all week, in the opening program was the Willie and Nillie show

Hey, I have class with her! Hi Chongo!

Micheal, that was great! I laughed a lot :-) I'll have to steal your idea and do "a day in the life of a teacher" sometime. Nice pics.

You forgot the part where we sleep in until 9!

But seriously . . . have you ever gotten a phone call from a church member at about 8 AM and they say, "Oh, Pastor . . . did I wake you up?" I have before!! Funny stuff.

There you go ladies... laughing at my job.

Shawn - man, that happens to you too!? How do you answer that? I haven't quite figured out how to respond.

What in the world?!?! I think after all that...I deserve a vacation!! Can we trade for 1 day? Maybe a week? I'm sure those pics aren't all they're cracked up to be...I've seen parts of Pastor Dan's life as a Pastor & I give him BIG kudos!! Blessings in Europe...I still dream of going...one of these days. :)

I must say, this post confirms my suspicions! Humorous take. As far as sleeping in till 9AM...maybe call your church members at 6AM (with a legitimate reason of course) and ask the same question (cheerfully of course). :)

Elizabeth - we should trade... as long as you don't mind hanging out at the pool and stuff :)
Paeter... ha - I'm humored... and your idea is perfect. At the end of this week I will be in Germany 7 hours ahead... so I could call at 3 p.m. sounding very awake...

And who is enjoying their "hammock time"? I tell you, some people! But really, I'm glad to see that pastoring is going so well for you! I'll try not to be jealous!

Hey Alex!

I was just in the Bay Area a couple of days ago for a quick (unexpected) visit. We went through Berkley and I thought of you. It would have been nice to see you but we made last minute plans.

Hope all is well!

Hey man, great to walk a day in your shoes. Though from one pastor to another... I must question if it's "a propo" (as you would say) to remove one's shirt as part of a visitation, LOL. And now that you've let our pastoral secrets out of the bag, I'll have to go out and do some serious pastoral work so people don't think I'm a slacker. (I think I'll start with a lunch visit followed by an elder's meeting on the back 9...)

Oh, and while I think of it... for the church member who calls at 8 a.m., I have just two words... caller I.D. (seriously). If it's important they'll leave a message; if it's not, they'll call back later. No need to interrupt your already busy day, after all...

Sorry, for leaving my message here. I could not find any of your contact info. My sister-in-law sent me a web site with your sermon when you were in Germany. We watched it with all our russian youth group and now just wanted to say thank you for such service of the Lord. We are living in NY and interesting to visit your church in Pennsylvania, meet your youth group and be a friends. Please contact me via email: verchi81@yahoo.com

Thank you so much!

You don't know me. And actually, I don't know you either. :) I just found your myspace and then your blog and well, here I am. :)

I enjoyed reading this -- very funny. I especially liked the part about waiting for members to call and compliment you on last week's sermon. LOL Isn't it funny how some church members think that this is really all you guys do? I love it.

My dad was an associate, and when he got a call to a 2 church district as the senior pastor, people kept asking if he was getting a promotion as if he wasn't a "real" pastor before. :) People are funny.
